The Bill Clinton Cult

There is a tendency amongst what passes for American liberals to worship Bill Clinton as the “ideal president”. It’s understandable. These people last lived well under Clinton, and after 10 years of strife and constant lowering of their standard of living, it’s natural they would have an idealized image of him.

Of course the problem with American liberals, which at best are centrist or slightly left leaning centrist from the point of view of us European pinkos, is their willful blindness.

Yes, THEY lived well. And that matters. But none of them bothers to remember that all of this came at a price.

And why is that? Because they didn’t pay the price.

Others did. My town in Romania paid the price when some nice American businessman came and bought the hosiery factory that fed half the town … only to shot it down because it made cheaper. The poor bastards in Yugoslavia bombed by American planes in 1999’s Easter night did. The poor people of Haiti sold once again into American corporation slavery paid. The list goes on.

Don’t get me wrong in any way shape or form, I don’t hate Bill Clinton. The guy had his good parts, and from all the presidents America had in generations, he was the least assholish of the lot.

It takes an unbelievable amount of naivety to believe that an American President could be anything but a shrewd politician who has already taken his heart out and sacrificed it on the altar of the Gods of Capitalism that rule the USA.

Make no mistake, no politician worth a quarter of his or her salt will have any delusions about the power of the people myth. There’s no such thing. The people of the USA are kept pacified with commodities they can’t afford in order to not realize they are mere wage slaves and puppets to the Gods of Capitalism.

And these American liberals have the same illness. I don’t quite recall any of them protesting the embargo on Iraq back under old Bill. Of course they didn’t. Innocents were dying from lack of medication and food, but that meant fuck all to the people who still had their cars and homes and jobs.

Do not get me wrong. Bill Clinton was a good president for the USA. The job of the president is to look after his people’s well being, in this case the illusion of comfort and plenitude that gets paid for by pillaging the world’s resources and screw you if you don’t like it.

The difference between Clinton and Bush the Second is minimal, but relevant: Clinton didn’t screw over his own people (too much).

When Good Old Bill took power, America was not a country anymore. It was nothing more than the heavy fist of a bunch of corporations, used to enslave and pillage the rest of the world, while its own people were being kept in the dormant state of the overfed.

Under these conditions, It is fair to say that Bill did the best he could by his people. That may make him a good president and probably a pretty decent human being, but that’s not enough.

In his defense, no American president has a chance in hell to get elected if he tells his people “you are too lazy and too greedy, your lifestyle is an illusion and your very standard of living is an undeserved burden upon the rest of the world”.

People don’t like being told they’re bad people. Even if they are.

It’s true, but that’s not the sort of truth people like to hear. Americans, and, let’s be honest, most of the people in the parts of the world where comfort has been present for the past half a century or so, do not regard themselves as being in any way privileged, but entitled.

By virtue of where they were born, they feel entitled to food, shelter, opportunities and safety. And screw everyone else.

If Bush would have provided a minimal amount of comfort to his people, few if any of them would have been batting an eyelid to his wars. They only revolted because he cut into their lifestyle.

So please, stop with the Clinton cult. Credit where it’s due, but by virtue of his job, as POTUS, Bill was the planet’s biggest pillager for 8 years, and many places on this Earth still carry the mark of his work.

Sorry folks. I’m one of the people who paid for your lifestyle, and you have done nothing to deserve it. Spare me the crocodile tears: if you’d still had what you had in the 90’s. none of you would give a flying fuck about what your revered soldiers- nothing more but criminal members of an imperialist conquest army- are doing to other people just so you can have your hamburgers , jeans and SUVs.

Great post European. I admire that you can understand that not all American’s are stupid. They just don’t know any better.
I like Bill because he made the economy strong. A economy stable enough to ride out he then, foreseeable recession. But, then conservatives had to get greedy. There was harmony, balance. With a Conservative Legislature, and a semi-Liberal Executive branch. With a Judicial Court that didn’t give a fuck… It was all good.

But, alas… It wasn’t all red roses and green grass. His one of three dire mistakes as Commander and Chief of my United States, was his “Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act” of 1994. Infringing upon our (my) 2nd Amendment, (By the way, i’m 19) is an action that is unforgivable. But since it wasn’t permanent, (10 yr. edict) I am indifferent toward that issue.
His second mistake was making NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), and “Free Trade” which is a farce.

His third, and most damning of mistakes, that he had created, was his trade agreement with the Republic of China. That deal, is what has made China so intimidating today. But you Europeans are safe from the Red Dragon, its breadth of fire is not aimed at you or your European state allies.

His wife, Hillary Clinton, which i myself would die for in order to protect. She should be Commander in Chief of the USA. If only Michigan, and Florida hadn’t voted earlier than they were supposed to, we wouldn’t be in the mess that we’re currently in. We don’t need a fool that has an eloquent tongue of persuasion. That has entranced most of the liberal American populous. Is reached.

This is a very long rant, i apologize. Good blog post Euro, i admire the thoughtfulness of you non-Americans. You see the world through true eye’s, not diluted through propaganda, or the media…

One last thing. What do you think of these 2 questions about the USA?

How can a Constitution, a Bill of Rights, and the Patriot Act exist in this country?

And, If we’re supposed to be living in a Republic, why does everyone think we live in a Democracy?
